Ground Penetrating Radar Scanning in Gold Coast
Gold Coast specialist subsurface GPR, built for sandy soils, canal-front developments, and the non-metallic reticulation that fills modern Gold Coast estates.
Gold Coast sites bring unique GPR challenges. Sandy, saline soils common across Mermaid Beach, Palm Beach, and Currumbin reduce radar penetration, while high water tables in canal estates around Hope Island, Sorrento, and Broadbeach Waters demand careful antenna selection on every job. Local crews tune frequency and gain to the ground conditions in front of them to deliver reliable subsurface imagery rather than guesswork.
Across Robina, Coomera, and Pacific Pines, non-metallic services dominate the underground picture. PVC water mains, HDPE gas, and fibre conduits sit invisible to standard EM and are reliably found with GPR. The same approach finds voids, sinkholes, unknown and abandoned services, and underground storage tanks that no longer appear on any plan.
Whether the job is a coastal property upgrade or a canal-estate pool excavation, locates are delivered with marked surface positions on site and a written summary for your records. Every job is supervised by a senior locator familiar with City of Gold Coast and Energex asset layouts.

Gold Coast Use Cases & Local Focus
- Non-metallic main detection in new estates
- Sandy/saline soil tuned antenna selection
- Underground tank (UST) location
- Canal estate pool & retaining wall pre-dig clearance
- Void & sinkhole investigations
- Unknown & abandoned service detection
Utility Types Located
- Non-metallic pipe detection (PVC, HDPE, fibre)
- Tank and UST (underground storage tank) location
- Grave and archaeological surveys
- Unknown & Abandoned Services (services that were left in the ground that may still be live or contain hazardous material)
- Void and sinkhole detection
- Pavement and subgrade analysis
- Forensic investigations
Safety Warning
GPR catches what electromagnetic locators cannot. Plastic gas mains, PVC water lines, and fibre optic conduits carry no traceable signal and without GPR they are effectively invisible. A strike on a live HDPE gas main can be catastrophic.
