Electrical Cable Locating
A deep-specialisation electrical service tracing HV, MV, and LV cables in line with
AS/NZS 4836 and network operator procedures.
Electrical cable locating is the deep-specialisation service for projects working near energised power infrastructure. Where general cable locating covers a broad mix of power and communications, this service focuses exclusively on the electrical network, including high-voltage transmission, medium-voltage distribution, low-voltage consumer mains, and the auxiliary systems that protect them.
All voltage classes are covered, from 11kV / 33kV / 66kV HV feeders down to LV submains and switchboard tails. Both energised and de-energised tracing methods are applied, with passive power-frequency detection used on live cables and active direct-connect injection used on isolated cables for maximum accuracy. Where confirmation is critical, non-destructive pothole verification visually exposes and confirms the cable.
Utility Types Located

- LV consumer mains and submains
- Earthing grids and bonding conductors
- Generator and solar-farm interconnects
- MV substation feeders
- Switchboard and pillar feeds
- Cathodic protection systems
- EV charger supply cables

Safety Warning
Excavation near HV cables risks fatal electrocution, severe arc flash burns, and network-wide outages affecting thousands of customers. AS/NZS 4836 and network operator permits are mandatory, so never excavate near electrical infrastructure without verified locates and appropriate authorisations in place.
