Pipe Locating
A dedicated discipline for buried pipework, using sonde and tracer-wire techniques that go well beyond a generic EM sweep.
Pipe locating focuses exclusively on buried pipework, including potable water, sewer, gas, stormwater, recycled water, irrigation, fire services, and industrial process lines. Pipes behave differently to cables: many are non-metallic, most are pressurised or gravity-fed rather than energised, and a strike releases fluid or gas rather than current.
Pipe-specific methods include sonde tracing through non-metallic pipes via CCTV or jetter access, tracer wire detection alongside PE and PVC pipework, and direct-connect signal injection from valves, hydrants, and meters. Every locate is delivered with surface-marked positions and measured depths where achievable.
Utility Types Located

Safety Warning
Pipe strikes cause flooding, raw sewage release, and in the case of gas, explosive ignition. Hazards are fluid, pressure, and gas based rather than electrical, and demand pipe-specific locating methods rather than EM sweeps alone.
